In our day-to-day life, we offer more attention to functional testing. The general practice is we follow the requirement documents to articulate test designs and then derive test cases out of the design.

However, more attention is offered to functional tests. Most likely non-functional tests are done towards the end of the testing cycle, at least after completing 80% of the functional tests.
